Heritage

The heritage of the region is not to be outdone, some examples:

• The Cathar city of Minerve, overlooking the causse, surrounded by the gorges of the cess and the brian where we bathe in summer, is classified as a 'Most beautiful village in France' (20mn);
• Fontfroide, one of the most powerful Cistercian abbeys of Christendom (28mn);
• Lagrasse Abbey and Caunes-Minervois Abbey, remarkable Benedictine monuments erected from the 8th century: (50mn and 40mn).
• In the Corbières, numerous Cathar castles perched on windy heights: Lastours (1h), Termes (1h15), Peyrepertuse, Puilaurens, or Quéribus…
• The City of Carcassonne, a powerful witness to 1000 years of architecture and 2600 years of history (50 mins).
• 15 minutes from the house, the pretty little town of Narbonne reveals the traces of many centuries of history, thanks to its pedestrian center : prestigious St-Just and St-Pasteur cathedral of Gothic style, magnificent palace of the Archbishops or vestiges of the Domitian Way (-118 BC.)…
